Senior manager with over-arching responsibility for the Open Source Lab staff and students responsible for the success of all of the hosted customers and clients. In conjunction with the Associate Director of Operations, provides leadership and direction for the OSL technical staff. As a member of the OSL leadership team, represents the organization to the public, key stakeholders, university and business partners. Solely responsible for the development and deployment of all technical aspects of the Oregon Department of Education's Oregon Virtual School District project. Directed all technical and support decisions for the project from the initial concept through design and implementation to full production. Built on Linux and open source software, the ORVSD is as a resource for Oregon K-12 schools. ORVSD was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an example of innovative and successful collaboration between higher education, state government and K-12 education.Accomplishments:* Rapid deployment of more than 500 sites and 36 servers, currently hosting 140,000 users at more than 400 schools; representing 30 percent of all schools and 96 percent of all school districts in the state.* Manage project with a nearly $2 million biennial budget during three legislative cycles.* Developed an automated site and content deployment system that allowed teachers to spawn online courses and learning management servers on demand. More than 400 online learning sites and 3,000 online courses have been created by teachers using this system.* Host and coordinate web services with IT administrators in several of the largest school districts in the state, requiring cooperative relationships with communications officers, CIOs, principals, and technical staff in both urban and rural districts.* Work collaboratively on special project support, help desk training and supervision with IT services offices from four regional education service districts.

Design, install, support, and maintain statewide intranet systems on platforms including Linux, Windows 2000/NT, Solaris, and MacOS. Research, design, build, and test new intranet systems and technologies using both off-the-shelf and home-grown solutions. Systems include e-mail, voice and video conferencing, web-based applications, voice mail and unified messaging, dial-up and DSL. Responsible for multiple heterogeneous systems, hardware and server software, operating systems, systems integration, and systems security. Built and administered a 20,000 user web-based distance education system and a 5,000 user groupware and unified messaging system. Systems administered: Open Text FirstClass, iPlanet suite, RealVideo, WebCT (Apache on Linux), Asterisk and Cisco voice over IP, Nortel telephone systems.

Directed live newscasts, leading a seven member crew in a high pressure setting. Produced, wrote, shot, and edited television commercials and public service announcements. Live remote van operation. Participated in all aspects of production for newscasts and other locally-produced programs.
