We unpacked visual and messaging trends to tell the Tufts story and recruit students. •In support of the ChildObesity180 initiative, I led a successful brand strategy to secure a $2.3 million grant from the New Balance Foundation, collaborating with Advancement colleagues.

The Institute and the Department of African and African American Studies gave me the opportunity to mix communications responsibilities with oversight of an international fellows program. Highlights•For the centennial of the institute’s namesake I delivered a microsite, using a treasure trove of Smithsonian assets. In an audio clip, a 92 year-old Du Bois remembered his time at Harvard as the first colored Ph.D. student. •Research by a Mandela Fellow influenced policy and broadened entry to university in post-apartheid South Africa. A successful $500K grant strategy I led emphasized continuing this aspect of the fellowship program in a pivotal moment of reform.

I honed my communications chops in the corporate sector at a brand agency. My focus was B2B websites and the development of discovery tools like creative briefs and competitive audits. Highlights•For Bose, I reimagined an extranet to inspire sales reps to sell the brand at retail stores. The concept introduced playlists and videos within training modules. •A brand guide I wrote for CDM (Smith) featured a new tagline that was defined by building consensus among senior stakeholders, which is still in use: listen. think. deliver.

My early career set me on a path that combined a passion for education, media, and storytelling. It was my chance to define national outreach strategy for 3 PBS broadcasts: America’s War on Poverty, Africans in America, and Matters of Race. Highlights•At the center of this experience, was the 16-state multichannel campaign I created at WGBH for the African in America series. Through teachers and community organizations, I increased awareness of African American history as part of one American story. •I received special props for engaging urban youth in the series content in 6 states, a new WGBH audience. They told their favorite stories of freedom through visual mediums and artistic expression, supported by public television stations at the state level.
