About Gregory Brew

Gregory Brew is a historian of international energy, U.S. foreign policy, the Cold War, U.S.-Iranian relations and modern Iran. He is currently an Analyst at Eurasia Group.Before joining Eurasia Group, Gregory held post-doctoral positions at Southern Methodist University and Yale University's Jackson School for Global Affairs. In 2020, he served as Deputy Managing Editor for the Texas National Security Review.Gregory has written two books exploring the history of oil, the Cold War, and US-Iranian relations. "Petroleum and Progress in Iran: Oil, Development, and the Cold War," was published by Cambridge University Press in December 2022. The book explores the intersection of the development movement, the formation of an international energy system and U.S. support for the Pahlavi regime in modern Iran during the 20th century.A second book, "The Struggle for Iran: Oil, Autocracy, and the Cold War, 1951-1954," co-authored with David S. Painter, was published by University of North Carolina Press in January 2023. It examines the Iran oil crisis and coup d'etat of 1953.Gregory's work has appeared in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, TIME, War on the Rocks, World Policy Review, Just Security, the Washington Post, and the LA Times.
