This position entailed managing an innovative and strategic program to support artists and cultural institutions in their efforts to reach audiences with high quality arts programs in the the five counties of Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Cultural Program focused on artistic quality, strong management practices and advanced audience development tactics to create a mutually supportive environment for the making and consuming of arts programs of all disciplines.Major elements and accomplishments have included: Creation of The Pew Center for Arts and Heritage - annually making up to 50 project grants and supporting professional development activities through Southeastern Pennsylvania. Since its inception the Center's programs have given over $82 million in grants and awarded nearly 275 artists fellowships. The Cultural Data Project (CDP): operating in 12 states and the District of Columbia, including Pennsylvania, California and New York, CDP is user-friendly data collection and dissemination tool that saves time for managers, provides them with powerful, free benchmarking and trend tools and gives advocates and policy makers accurate logitudinal data with which to make their case for audiences and public and private support.The CDP has been operated by The Pew Charitable Trusts since 2005, and has recently transitioned into an independent nonprofit with a national board and governance structure that matches its broad scope. The CDP now operates in Philadelphia as a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization. Data from the CDP is used by nearly 240 grant programs across the country.The Philadelphia Cultural Leadership Program - provides generous and unrestricted support to a select group of cultural institutions as a reward for the quality of programming and services to the public.

Managed a LORT (D) theatre with a budget of $2.5 million (approximately $5 million now) with duties that included fundraising ($1.2 million per year), marketing and communications, finance and operations (total staff of 50+). Also responsible for board relations, major gifts development, strategic planning, contract negotiation and producing six to eight shows per year.During my tenure the institution's operating budget tripled, capital assets (buildings and endowment) quadrupled, and the theatre developed one of the largest arts education programs in the country, all on a balanced budget. The theatre is one of a handful employing a full time company of artists. Significant productions included The Gospel at Colonus, a six-hour adaptation of Theodore Dreiser's Sister Carrie, and Kabuki-styled productions of Othello and Achilles (which toured in Europe and the Middle East).
