Between 1990 and 1993, I provided hardware technical support and expertise for the AN/MSC-63A Tactical Message Switch, including engineering technician support for a Telecommunications Line Controller redesign. I analyzed inconsistencies in the AUTODIN Mode I interface using a protocol analyzer test set, provided recommended changes to developers, and developed custom test scripts for the Marine Micro Test Item Simulator. I also designed and built an AN/MSC-63A Tactical Communication Center lab, provided operational and maintenance support, and resolved hardware and software anomalies in Tactical Data Communication equipment. Additionally, I analyzed Engineering Change Proposals and Modification Instructions, provided technical guidance to users, and assisted with system documentation production as an AN/MSC-63A subject matter expert.

Between 1983 and 1990, I served in the United States Marine Corps, where I maintained secure data communications systems in an operational ready state. My responsibilities included scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, system modifications, and preventive and corrective maintenance of tactical data communications systems and related equipment. I performed depot level maintenance on components of the Mobile Communications Central and Special Security Communications Center, and designed and prototyped a modification to modernize the cryptographic capabilities in the AN/MSC-63 Special Security Communications Center. Additionally, I designed and prototyped an interface device for secure data communication over HF radio, which was used by Fleet Marine Forces during Operation Desert Shield/Storm.
