Illawarra

Establish a surveying practice with operations in the Illawarra and Sydney Metropolitan - operating in land, engineering and hydrographic surveys in a period which saw employee numbers grow from two to twenty five.

Illawarra

Carried out hydrographic, land and engineering surveys related to the port operations in a period of growth in harbour and property related matters. Undertook a post-graduate diploma in Business Management at Wollongong University.

Dural

Established the surveying department of the business in this period, operating mainly in the Sydney Metropolitan area, the Hunter Valley and Lithgow region. Colin Donges was an excellent planner who undertook Environmental studies as a precursor to the introduction of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act in 1980. I was fortunate to gain very relevant experience in town planning matters during this period of employment.

Lithgow

This was a short period of employment on a temporary basis that opened my eyes and mind to 'business' conduct of a surveying practice. Surveyors, Noel Craven and Tom Elliston, operated a very business orientated and professional surveying operation that still continues today.

Port Kembla

This was the job of a lifetime - a time when the surveying department employed perhaps 70-80 personnel and a time where the BHP Australia wide surveying requirements were services from Port Kembla. This period of employment saw me obtain registration as a surveyor in September 1977 and also allowed me to travel to many remote parts of Australia to perform surveys by Tellurometer and T2, star and sun observations and to develop a love for remote and outback Australia - how good could a job be!
