Greg was highly recruited to provide FirstKey’s Executives, VPs, and Directors with pragmatic business advice to properly balance and assess risks to set strategy based upon his track record for problem solving, regulatory compliance, and consumer law experience. His goal is to achieve his team’s initiatives while managing risk to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing and regulating consumer and residential real estate transactions. Greg's experience has traditionally focused on consumer financing involving mortgages, REO assets, auto-loans, credit cards, and other consumer lending and litigation. He has shifted to the SFR industry overseeing 25 markets in 19 states with +50K homes, +250K residents, and $20B AUM. Greg has been involved in the hypergrowth mode of FirstKey, when he started in 2019, the portfolio contained 17K SFR assets and has tripled in 4 years. He budgets litigation costs, investigates claims, and assesses his team’s liability based upon policies and procedures to mitigate risks and resolve disputes which impact finances and operations with specific benchmarks. He advises his team regarding internal operations, compliance, security and any local, state, or federal law impacting single-family leasing and management. He is the legal business partner and strategy advisor to FirstKey Operations, Compliance, Communications, Cybersecurity, Consumer Privacy, Marketing, IT, IA, HR, Construction, Finance and Accounting divisions. He also has comprehensive real estate knowledge involving origination issues impacting title, foreclosures, REO assets, and lien holder disputes. He has extensive knowledge of mortgage servicing, consumer litigation, easement issues, eminent domain, housing code violations, lending laws, zoning, hazard claims, property insurance, evictions, and complex title issues requiring reformations, partitions, variants, and perfection of security instruments. He has served as first chair for 100s of bench trials, dozens of jury trials, 1000s of motion hearings, logging +10K hours in the courtroom. He has driven policy and procedure implementation, initiated compliance monitoring programs, developed live and eLearning training courses, and partnerships with Internal Audit to effect global change across all corners of FirstKey. Greg prides himself on being able to handle the most complex issues and working with his team to provide creative and effective solutions to protect assets and getting from "No" to "Yes" while maintaining compliance and reputational risks.
