About Greg Stephens
I am currently Deputy General Counsel at Relay, Inc. in Raleigh, NC responsible for global Intellectual Property. My primary objective is to add enterprise value through the acquisition and prosecution of patents and trademarks. I'm also responsible for coordinating with others on open source policies, IP transactions, and IP litigation. My approach relies on close communication and strategic planning with executive leadership as well as the business development, operations, and engineering teams to identify and protect relevant areas to our business. My focus includes current operations as well as future innovations. I have been practicing IP law since 1995 following a stint as a Patent Examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. My practice covers many facets of IP law including strategic IP planning, patent prosecution, patent litigation, technology licensing, software licensing, trademark and trade secret law. I have a degree in electrical engineering and have done much work in the electronics, software, and telecommunications industries.Specialties: Strategic IP Planning, Patent Prosecution, Patent Litigation, Licensing, Patent and Trademark Portfolio Management, Client Counseling

My path has come full circle as I have rejoined Bandwidth after guiding Republic Wireless for 3 years following their split from Bandwidth. Bandwidth's successful IPO in Nov. 2017 kick started a growth cycle that eventually led to my return in Oct. 2019 to help shape IP policy and grow the IP portfolio. At Bandwidth, I am responsible for all facets of global intellectual property including acquisition, prosecution, and management of the patent and trademark portfolio. I am also responsible for strategic planning, open source policies, IP licensing and transactions, and, along with litigation counsel, IP litigation.
