During my 3 years at Tufts Medical Center, I was focused on corneal immunology and understanding interactions between corneal immune cells and corneal nerves. I was investigating the role of plasmacytoid dendritic cells and corneal nerve bundles in infectious (HSV-1 infection), autoimmunity (dry eye disease), neurogenic (ciliary nerve axotomy), and sterile inflammation (corneal suture placement). Besides, using 2-photon microscopy and transgenic animals, I was investigating immune cell kinetics during steady-state and afore mentioned inflammatory models.Additionally, I was working on how Lifitegrast (LFA-1 antagonist) modulate T effector cell recruitment in dry eye disease. Brief description of lab techniques:• Rodent animal handling and micro-surgery• Flow cytometry, cell-sorting, ELISA and multiplex protein analysis, real-time PCR. • Animal treatment (subconjunctival micro-injections, topical and systemic)• 2-photon Microscopy, immunostaining and confocal imaging

During the PhD we evaluated recombinant alpha 1 antitrypsin as a therapeutic approach to minimize the early inflammatory and structural changes typically observed in the diabetic retina in mice. Brief description of lab techniques:• Rodent animal handling and micro-surgery• Western blot, Flow cytometry, real-time PCR. • Animal treatment (intravitreal micro-injections, and systemic injections)• Retinal Histology, Immunohistochemistry and Immunofluorescence.
