Over the past year and a half as a systems design and integration engineer at Rolls-Royce, I have had the opportunity to focus on REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and restriction of Chemicals) and the impact it has on aerospace engines. Firstly, this has entailed ensuring we can accurately declare substances of concern for certain gas turbine engines, making sure our customers can handle the products safely. Secondly, I have been involved in the process of determining and implementing alternative solutions for processes or materials which are a productions risk due to the substances used. This has involved identifying our risks, gaining a good knowledge of the product, understanding the requirements, problem solving and mapping out what alternative solutions are available. Currently I am a member of the design team working on these engine components as part of the product change process. Prior to Rolls-Royce, I completed my Masters in Aerospace Engineering at Brunel University in London. One of my highlights from Brunel was time spent on the committee of the Brunel Robotics and Engineering Society. Being part of this society allowed me to work with students from various backgrounds on projects such as rocket design, drones, 3d printing, and electric go-cart construction. Through my contributions as part of this society, I was presented with a Vice Chancellors Award. Other interests I enjoy include baking, photography, remote control aircraft, and working on my 1966 Mini Moke.
