About Hailey Mitchell
I am a graduate from The University of Tampa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science-Biology. The Marine Science-Biology department at The University of Tampa is consistently ranked as one of the best in the country, and as such I have had many unique educational and hands-on opportunities of which I have taken advantage.During my time at this institution, I have formed personal connections with my professors and other faculty members, which has in turn immersed me into the professional scientific community. I began conducting independent and group research through my courses at UT, which has led me to my current independent research project with faculty of the Marine Science-Biology department. I am passionate, hard-working, and dedicated to this profession, and I look forward to exploring opportunities in the field to better myself as a Marine Biologist.Since graduating, I have expanded my sea turtle-based knowledge and experience through multiple different organizations. I started my sea turtle journey as a Sea Turtle Research and Conservation Intern at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota, Florida. Here I got my introduction to nesting surveys, and I fell in love with the work that was performed. From here, I accepted a position as a Sea Turtle Biologist with Miami Dade Sea Turtle Conservation Program in Miami, Florida. During my first season working in Miami, I also joined Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program as a Morning Surveyor and Lighting surveyor, and Ecological Associates Inc. as an Environmental Monitor to assist with overnight surveys and relocations. I hope to keep expanding my sea turtle research and conservation efforts in the future, wherever that may take me!
