I was based in AstraZeneca's Quality Assurance Department, specialising in product quality testing. During my time there I was trained in many pharmaceutical QC techniques, including bioburden testing using pour plate and filtration techniques, water and product endotoxin testing, sterility testing using half-suit isolators amongst other skills, all working in compliance with current SOPs/SOMs, GMP, SHE and COSHH guidelines. I worked in a controlled area environment and was trained in the use of laboratory computer programs such as E-LAB, EM and GLIMS. I was also a mentor who assisted in the training of new or current members of staff. I worked in a busy team that works closely with two others in QAD and other departments across site, and my role required equal amounts of working under my own initiative and supporting the other members of my team in order to complete a multitude of jobs efficiently and to a consistently high standard.

After finishing my MSc, I started working as a sales assistant at CeX, a video game, DVD and technology retail store. My responsibilities involved daily face-to-face interaction with the public, customer service on the shop floor, buying and selling products at tills, as well as demonstrating and selling mobile phones and technology to prospective customers based on their wants and needs. I also carried out general house-keeping, putting out new stock, dealing with stock transfers between stores, and contacting other stores about stock levels and reservations for customers.
