I am one of the co-event directors at Aberystwyth parkrun. I've been a regular volunteer for a while, and decided to step up recently to take on one of the more formal roles. This means I am involved with general event management, risk assessments and that kind of thing.

I teach data modelling and infosec to the MSc cohort, and information security to the first years. Previously I've also taught computer vision to the 3rd years, databases to the 2nd years, web dev to the first years, interactive web dev to the 2nd years, professional development to the first years and engineering knowledge-based systems to the third years.

Through BCSWomen I set up the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium, which is now in it's 16th year. This is a national conference for women undergraduates, which moves around the country. A lot of my linkedin contacts are BCSWomen and Lovelace people, and also recruiters. 2023 - Sheffield2022 - Aberystwyth, Lancaster and LSBU (although, online)2021 - Lancaster.

I was deputy chair of BCSWomen, the British Computer Society's group for supporting women in IT, for 4 years. I stood down in September 2012, but remained on the committee for another decade or so and still do quite a lot of work for the group.

Scientists are Humans is an online magazine aiming to promote kindness in STEM culture - research, teaching and learning. I was a founding member and wrote for, edited and promoted the magazine. We mothballed the project after four years.

Computer vision research: working in face detection and alignment, and in the modelling of crowd behaviour from video.

Research Fellow in Cognitive Vision, working on the automated modelling of behaviour, activities and scenes.

Coordinating virtual microscopy - the use of high magnification slide scanners to produce digital images for teaching, research and diagnosis within the Leeds General Infirmiary.This post involved web-design, liaising with agencies on various technical issues (such as back-ups, which are quite a problem when one virtual slide can be over a gigabyte in size.

Providing professional IT training in Linux, and developing Linux course materials (5 day introductory course aimed at LPI certification, covering user level unix and basic system administration).

Teaching fellow at university, covering all varieties of teaching in Higher Education. Lecture class sizes ranged from 1200 (Basic IT) to 15 (Cognitive Science); also final year projects (one-to-one), practical classes and tutorial supervision.
