Environmental Health And Safety Manager
As an EHS Manager I have many tasks and responsibilities. My background is quite varied and thus my tasking has been quite varied.I oversee the safety and health of all employees and agency contracted personnel working for SpaceX at our South Texas Starship Research and Launch Facility. This can include everything from performing hazard analysis to operational oversight, ensuring that all of our procedures maintain a safe environment and that they are being carried out in an appropriate manner. This also may encompass ensuring that the materials our employees work with are appropriate, and the best option available for the task; as well as, are handled in a safe manner.Another part of the tasking associated with my department, is ensuring that we, as a company, abide by and conform to all applicable Federal and State standards for occupational safety, environmental protections, and transportation standards. This requires a significant amount of regulatory review and permit compliance work.My background in the fire service has also been utilized. I work with many of the hazardous operations, specifically the hazardous hypergolic propellant operations, utilized during spacecraft integration. Generally this tasking incorporates ensuring compliance with Air Force standards, however, also encompasses operational oversight and incident pre-planning for all operations.I perform training in a number of areas for SpaceX. Some of the topics have established curricula for training whereas other topics I have had to develop the program in whole. Like many companies, SpaceX is always evolving and growing. With this evolution come new challenges, and I have found myself on the forefront of several of those challenges.I enjoy being a part of an organization that is constantly pushing the limits of capability. It is in that challenge that I extract from everything I have done before, to help find creative solutions.

Environmental Health And Safety Specialist
Donation Specialist
Iowa Donor Network is the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) specified by the federal government for the State of Iowa. As a Donation Specialist I receive any incoming referrals (death or imminent death) for either a potential Organ Donation or Tissue Donation. I process the incoming referral and determine medical suitability for all potential Donors. When a donor has been determined to be medically suitable for donation, I would then coordinate the case with County and State Medical Examiners, Coroners, or Hospital Pathologists if necessary. I would also interface with Both internal and external Funeral Directors regarding donor transportation and funeral arrangements. I also acted as the interface between Iowa Donor Network and the donor’s family.I approach the donor family for donationI guided the donor’s family through the process of donationI ensured that all communication streams to the donor’s family are clear and open between all necessary parties. Once a case was consented, I would then act as the case coordinator and organize all recovery efforts, team transportation, logistics of supplies, and any other necessary activities to assure rapid and proper recovery of all potential tissues or whole organs.

The primary tasking of HDR Inspections was both residential and commercial new construction. The types of inspections performed included: Code Compliance InspectionsSystem Integrity Testing OSHA Compliance Inspections EPA / DNR Compliance InspectionsADA Compliance InspectionsCorporate SOG / SOP Development as they relate to OSHA
Senior Fire Medic / Hazmat Technician
I operated within the command structure of the largest emergency services provider in the state. I collaborated with command staff from other branches and disciplines within the fire department as well as local, state, and federal agencies of the government. I developed, implemented, and oversaw incident action plans and preplanning for a multitude of large and small scale events utilizing the National Incident Management System (NIMS). I often interfaced with military and government oversight agencies to ensure optimal performance towards all goals and objectives while ensuring that all legal and regulatory compliances were met. Specifically I worked within the Hazardous Materials Operations group as well as Emergency Medical Services. Part of my tasking was to ensure the health and well-being of all staff and public personnel whether they be specifically part of an incident or not. Some of the agencies I routinely operated with include - OSHA, DOT, EPA, NFPA, Iowa DNR, DHS, Secret Service, Air and Army National Guard, FBI, US Marshall Service, NIOSH, and UL Laboratories.
Paramedic Specialist
While working for the Unity Point Hospital System (parent organization for Blank Children’s Hospital) my skills as an educator and specialist in regards to Emergency Management, Hazardous Materials, Incident Command, and Process Development and Improvement were recognized on multiple levels. I was not only tasked with the training and incident planning for Hazardous Materials incidents, I was also given the task of developing the hospital wide policies and procedures necessary to safely and repeatedly carry out responses to such events. This involved organizational interaction with internal industrial hygiene entities as well as government oversight agencies like OSHA, EPA, and other Hospital Specific agencies like JCAHO (the largest and most respected accreditation entity within healthcare). I also operated as part of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) within the Operations Branch.
Aerial Effects Specialist
This was a crew position within the National Tour of Peter Pan starring Cathy Rigby. Supervise touring and local aerial effects staff members and crew (typically 10-20 personnel). Develop safety standards, SOPs, and other required departmental policies and documentation to comply with Equity and OSHA requirements. Oversee all safety aspects of both performers and crew. Operate, perform maintenance, and move all aerial effects equipment from venue to venue.
Aerial Effects Specialist
ZFX Flying Illusions is a premier company in the theatrical industry specializing in aerial effects performance and rigging. I started working for ZFX essentially as a sub-contractor for the First National Broadway Tour of Seussical the Musical. When the show closed in the Spring of 2003, I began working directly for ZFX traveling around the country and internationally. My duties were all encompassing of the aerial effects trade. Intricate rigging for safely supporting human life, instruction for crew members operating ZFX equipment (who were at times volunteers or did not speak English), install and remove all rigging and flying equipment to the strictest of government and company safety standards, and develop safety checklist and SOPs for running crew personnel and management to utilize. I also had an artistic responsibility. This utilized my extensive experience and knowledge of human flying effects to teach performers choreography and movement while flying. This required a significant amount of communication with actors and directors with hugely diverse amount of experience flying actors on a stage. I was required to customize my teaching and communication style to the specific individual. This ability would prove increasingly useful throughout the entirety of my working life. This was a very fast paced and high risk environment. I felt very comfortable working in an environment of this type as I have a strong eye for detail, as well as a developed sense of safe operating practices. I was fortunate to be part of the aerial effects industry as it transitioned from that of a more circus style environment, to one that utilized SOPs, research and physics based safety standards, and quality assurance methodology.
Head Electrician / Electrician
I began my career with Juniper Street Productions as an Electrician. My duties and responsibilities included the movement, operation, and maintenance of theatrical lighting, special effects, and sound equipment on national touring productions. Blue's Clues Live was the first show I was assigned to. I was manufacturer trained in the diagnosis and repair of electronic systems, components, and control interfaces for automated lighting and dimming equipment. This was often in an autonomous environment with little resources available on a daily basis. I was given the tasking of keeping the shows 300+ fixtures working in show ready condition. I also was trained by Wybron Systems in the installation, maintenance, calibration, and use of their AutoPilot system. This is an advanced command and control system that interfaces with multiple other computer based controllers to execute the programmed actions for the automated lighting fixtures. The AutoPilot system utilized a myriad of infra-red, ultrasonic, and radio frequency sensors and communications systems to track performers as they move around a stage. This information was then integrated into the data stream to focus lighting instruments on performers real-time in three- dimensional space. At this time, Blue's Clues Live has been the only theatrical tour to successfully utilize the AutoPilot system. I was promoted within Juniper Street Productions to a Head Electrician in 2001 for the touring production of Scooby-Doo. This position had the added responsibilities of departmental budget development, crew and staffing authority, and pre-planning necessary for the movement and adaptation of the electrics package from venue to venue.
Houseman
As a houseman, I was responsible for the technical operation of the theatre. This included overseeing operations of professional crews on national traveling tours of Broadway Shows and overseeing the operations of student staffed and produced productions from UNCSA. In depth knowledge of rigging, electrics, scenic assets, sound control and amplification, and other ancillary technical operations on the stage was instrumental. I also interfaced between the university and OSHA during this time. I worked with NIOSH and Underwriter's Laboratories in the development of standards and interpretation algorithms for the theatre environment. I penned many of the tools currently utilized, throughout the country, when applying OSHA standards to the ubiquitous yet ever changing landscape of the entertainment industry.
