Scrum Your Wedding was a spin-off of Everybody's Invited, and combined my interest in event planning with my project management skills. "Scrum" is a methodology popular with software development teams. As a certified Scrum Master who has worked with multiple software development teams, I am deeply familiar with the challenges of working on complex projects with changing requirements. When it came time to plan my wedding (a complex project with changing requirements!), I borrowed heavily from the world of scrum, and had a pain-free wedding planning experience as a result. I wanted to help other people have enjoyable experiences, so I launched Scrum Your Wedding as a free guide in February of 2015, with a friend. We also offered coaching services for couples planning weddings.

18F is the office inside the U.S. Government's General Services Administration that helps government agencies build and buy digital services by putting users first and incorporating lean, agile, and open software development methodologiesCurrently leading the Account Management chapter, which is focused on partner relationships—from lead generation and business development, to creating great outcomes for our partners, providing value to internal project teams, and establishing organizational practices that allow us to better serve the agencies we work with.Previously: served as a consulting product manager with the U.S. Forest Service to develop and launch an online permitting application, Open Forest.

I taught a Product and Project Management that prepares students to facilitate Hack Oregon teams, and effectively lead technology projects. Students learn about effective team facilitation and project management strategies, including an introduction to agile software development methodologies. Students also learn product management skills including defining a product vision, understanding audiences and user value, and gathering product requirements.

I worked with engineers, designers, and program staff to develop digital products that support the internet health movement. I designed and implemented user research strategies to better understand needs of end users, and conducted user testing to validate hypotheses. I was also responsible for maintaining a product roadmap that reflected changing organizational priorities, shifting resources, and commitments to external partners.

While serving on the Mozilla Foundation's Engagement Team, I had the opportunity to work with tremendously talented marketing, communication, and fundraising professionals, serving in a leadership role. My job was to help them do their jobs better, and I was fortunate enough to learn a great deal about each of those disciplines in the process.

I co-founded a small events company in Portland, OR. We specialized in creating custom DIY experiences for clients anywhere in the world. We created custom scavenger hunt and theme party templates, provided detailed instructions and budgets, and sourced low-cost materials so that clients could host their own one-of-a-kind events while saving time and money.

During my decade-long tenure at Idealist.org (a social network that connects 2.5 million visitors a month to each other and to opportunities for action, including jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities), I served in several different roles.From 2003 to 2006 I was a Campus Organizer, providing trainings on nonprofit careers and activism to thousands of college students across the United States. I then spent a year as the Deputy Chief of Staff, which was a tremendous opportunity to learn about the ins-and-outs of running a successful international nonprofit.During 2007 and 2008, I led Idealist's North American Community Outreach efforts, leading a team of seven Community Organizers. Together, we produced events, trainings, and partnerships around the themes of nonprofit careers, volunteerism, and social entrepreneurship. I also oversaw production of multimedia projects including a social media marketing program, a popular podcast series, several blogs, and a series of promotional and educational videos.I then spent the next five years in a leadership role on the organization's in-house software development team. I was the lead project manager on a multi-year project to re-launch Idealist.org on a new platform, with new social features. I then served as a Scrum Master during the team's transition to Agile development methodologies, and later as a Product Owner on multiple Scrum teams.

As a Campus Organizer, I created and delivered service-learning curriculum to college students around the United States. I was also a member of the League's annual conference planning staff for five years, including the three years it was produced under the auspices of Idealist.org (serving one year as Conference Director).
