Previous Positions:Sr. Engineering Manager: July 2020 - July 2021I hired 9 backend engineers and 11 contractors last fall in an effort to double the size of the engineering team. I also managed the Guided Actions (pricing intelligence, predictive etas, route optimization) and Visibility (alerts dashboard, load board) squads. I led the technology team on a mission to improve upon a solid foundation and clean up technical debt. In my first year, we were able to move all production (Outerwear, Shorts, and new pants models) to our Beijing factory, rewrite our .NET tablet apps, move our servers to Amazon AWS, clean up our administrative controls, experiment with a number of new marketing and product ideas, and launch a public API.Scope: 1 squad (5 directs)

I conducted a Technology assessment for a friend's company then was hired to implement the recommendations. I built an in-house team (2 backend engineers, product designer, and mobile dev) within a month and stabilized the legacy system. I developed a tight knit team using 2 week sprints, daily scrums, pair programming, and 1x1s with directs and peers.

I hired two product designers and two front end engineers to improve upon our user interface. I also added two-week sprints, design and code reviews, to keep our larger team in synch. We built new versions of our core applications (knowledge graph, template editor, customer analytics).Then we experimented with some new products. We launched Forge (create scalable messaging content), Currents (explore real time trends in Twitter), and VIP (local businesses get referrals on Facebook). We then built a successful SAAS product with Soundboard, which provides curated content for small businesses.Scope: 1 squad (3-8 directs)

I co-founded EdgeTheory along with the CEO and CTO of JoeOptions. I planned out the product roadmap for our social media product, developed our financial model and pricing strategy, and built the initial backend in PHP.A year later, I started working full time when we received seed funding from Jim Barksdale. I recruited our initial four person engineering team, managed the team, and ported the monolithic PHP app to an Angular.js frontend and a Ruby backend using microservices. The rewrite grew our business and led to the creation of a new product line.

Did standard MBA analysis for a vacation rental focused startup and got pulled back into tech while trying to help them. I knocked the rust off my programming skills, learned the LAMP stack, and convinced a friend to also do some part time programming for the company. I wrote a custom analytics system, a fast search for properties, a booking system, and a billing system.

I helped a team of Product Managers introduce support products for Dell computers.

My student-run team ran a regression on World Bank data to project the sales of a low-cost computer in emerging markets.

I managed phone switch and IVR automation for a 500 seat contact center. I developed a web application in ASP (pre .NET) that managed the approval of high dollar value credit card limit increases over the phone within 2 minutes. And (in less than 3 months) Billy Conn and I built a credit card archival system. "Statement Creator" imported millions of records from flat files and users could search the web app for old credit card statements and render them as a PDF in less than five seconds.

Worked with a team of 5 loosely connected game developers (mostly students like myself) and built video games in Z80 Assembler for TI Graphing calculators. I wrote 20 or so video games and am currently the 23rd most downloaded author of all time on ticalc.org with over 600k downloads. Designed and programmed a puzzle game for the TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator in Z80 assembler from scratch in 2 months. Ooze was a game where users had to combine a network of pipes on an 8x8 grid to let the "ooze" flow from on side of the screen to the other.
