Despite their critical importance to society, many volcanoes do not have the ground equipment necessary to evaluate their activity on a frequent and confident basis. Using thermal infrared data from ASTER, volcanoes and other thermal features can be monitored with higher spatial and temporal resolution, which will ultimately be consolidated into an accessible thermal feature database, beginning with "proving grounds" in Latin America and expanding globally. Conducting data collection and thermal feature analysis and evaluation under the supervision of Dr. Kevin Reath in a broader project led by Dr. Matthew Pritchard in coordination with Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
