About Paul Harrison

My research, consulting, teaching and writing informs businesses, public institutions and social policy across a range of contexts, including healthcare, arts and culture, consumer wellbeing, aged care, and legal and regulatory environments through the examination of the effect of marketing on human behaviour, consumer decision-making in these contexts, and the social aspects of consumption.I am currently working on projects examining the ethical implications of the merging of Western business practice with indigenous owned and operated enterprises, how packaging influences children's food choices, digital promotion and persuasion, the relationship between social media and cosmetic surgery, and the influence of Buy Now, Pay Later amongst vulnerable people.I am the Director of the MBA program and Co-Director of the Better Consumption Lab at Deakin University's School of Business, and Adjunct Professor at Sacred Heart University in Milan. At Deakin University, I have designed and teach a unique hybrid MBA program (online/on-campus/residentials/study tours) that ranks 1st in the world for class experience. I am currently a non-executive director of the Consumer Policy Research Centre, a member of the Rapid Regulatory Response Group at AHPRA and the auDA advisory board, and was a non-executive director of Australia's Telecommunications Ombudsman (2010-2022), external advisor on Consumer Behaviour at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), past chair of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, visiting research fellow at Yale University and The Open University, and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.I regularly give speeches nationally and internationally on issues related to consumer behaviour, public health and well-being, governance, and marketing. I travel frequently and work on research and consulting projects with people and organisations in Europe, Asia and the US, and speak frequently on major media, such as TV, radio, and print in relation to consumer behaviour and marketing.
