Having joined the Brightwell office in July 2019, I was promoted to Associate in January 2020. I helped support the Structural Engineering services provided from JMS East Anglia and opened a new office in Cambridge in 2020.

My role at Morrish Consulting Engineers saw me work on a wide range of projects from small extensions to large scale multi-storey developments. I was able to advance my knowledge of temporary works designs having produced schemes for site hoardings and temporary propping along with carrying out crane stability checks. I managed our sub-contracted Civil Engineer services, managing fees and work load as well as having the opportunity to develop my understanding of infrastructure design. Highlights included;Homerton College – Provided Civil and Structural Engineering services for a number of works including an extension adjacent to the historic Great Hall to form a new bar, extension of existing Science Teaching Block and development of a new auditorium space with student accommodation above.

As a Project Engineer, I was in charge of a number of projects, co-ordinating both Civil & Structural input as well as being responsible for resource and financial planning. I had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients on various sized projects; from new build free schools funded by the EFA, retirement developments for McCarthy & Stone to small new builds/extensions for private clients.Highlights included;Ongar Academy, New Free School – Development of new educational establishment, from initial concept design to final structural proposals. A braced steel frame, with PCC upper floors and insitu ground floor slab, all supported off piles.

Mainly educational and public service work via frameworks with some commercial and private work.The role of intermediate structural engineer helped developed me as an engineer and manager, giving me the opportunity to play more of a part in the management and planning of the structures team in the Bury St Edmund’s regional office. Helping younger members of the team, I was able to help them develop and pass my knowledge on as well as develop skills in leadership, management and communication. I helped to plan weekly workload, ensuring people had a consistent work flow. I was responsible for my own projects including small internal alterations to large multi-storey buildings.

Graduate Engineer in the Consulting Engineers section of Bidwells in Cambridge.Worked on a wide range of projects, gaining experience in a multitude of areas including pre-development appraisals (i.e. Geo Phase and Utility), scheme and conceptual design, detail design and construction phase advice including a residential engineering role. Highlights included;Jesus College, Cambridge - Refurbishment of Grade II Listed Chapel CourtEmmanuel College, New South Court - Development of a new student accommodation block on a tight college site.Trumpington Meadows, Cambridge - Consulting Engineers on a new housing development for Barratts on the outskirts of Cambridge.Peterhouse, New Birdwood Building - Resident Engineering role on the construction of a waterproof basement adjacent to one of the oldest colleges in Cambridge.

Year out before attending university gave me a good solid base for the start of my course, learning about basic construction terms, techniques and the role of the engineer within the industry. Working at Pick Everard enabled me to put my education into practice, helping me to cement my knowledge as well as learn new skills in communication, team work and management. Courses I have attended include a 2 day CAD course and S-Frame training session. Half day courses include introduction to CDM 2007 and implementation of company procedures for environmental and H&S.
