I originally started at Aquafortus as an Intern at the end of my 2nd year at University. I initially completed general workshop work and helped the Senior Engineers with running R&D chemical plants. As my experience in the workshop increased I learnt how to build and run many of the plants that Aquafortus uses, currently, I have a reasonable amount of experience of working with hazardous chemicals and building R&D scale chemical plants. During my second year of working over the Summer holidays at Aquafortus, I was able to apply my modelling skills to some of the problems they had been facing. One of these problems was with regards to the Reverse Osmosis (RO) system that we were trying to design, the rigs that we were using could only accommodate a single RO membrane. This meant that we were interested in collecting data on how specific membranes performed by themselves. I then took this data and created an application that allowed a RO system to be designed, the flows through this system would then be calculated based on the data collected from the testing phase. The application was specifically designed so that any of the Engineers working at Aquafortus could use it without explicit knowledge of how the program works. I have also worked on numerous smaller models for Aquafortus, some of these include Economic Modelling for plant sizes, Coalescer cartridge modelling, and Pressure drop modelling across a plant.
