Admissions at a large Psychiatric hospital is an unpredictable and rapidly changing environment.Responsibilities in this position includes assessing patients as they arrive in admissions from a variety of sources such as self referrals, community referrals or Police/Crisis services; assisting the Physicians; providing patient care as needed; liaising with management, unit staff and regional bed managers; completing necessary documentation; monitoring patients mental status and numerous other tasks. This position requires flexibility, excellent time management, communication skills and empathy.

As a mental health therapist working in the area of Geriatrics, responsibilities include assessment and implementation of nursing care plans; ongoing monitoring and assessment of elderly patients suffering from mental health issues including dementia, depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia; liaising with physicians and other disciplines to provide high quality care to clients with the goal of improving their quality of life- this includes referrals to home care, day programs and, when needed, hospital. In this position I was also able to co-facilitate a Changeways group (a cognitive behavioural based group for patients with depression/anxiety) and attended monthly meetings at an inner city agency to provide some guidance/support for their staff dealing with clients who present with mental health issues.

Patients on this unit suffer from psychiatric illness including dementia as well as medical co-morbidities.Responsibilities include assessing/monitoring patients, implementing care plans, administering medications and treatments, liaising with an interdisciplinary team and families, advocating for patients, maintaining safety and assisting with activities of daily living.

Patients on this unit suffer from psychiatric illness including dementia as well as medical co-morbidities.In the position of Clinical Coordinator, responsibilities included all of those seen in the position of Staff Nurse as well as being the direct liaison between the unit physicians/interdisciplinary team members and the front line staff. This position required strong communication skills, patient advocacy, and time management. In this position I attended weekly team meetings and worked with the doctors on a daily basis to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients.
