About Heather Adams
Every learner deserves the chance to craft their own educational and professional journey—one where they can truly thrive. Whether transferring schools, balancing education with work and family, or breaking new ground as a first-generation college student, I’ve seen firsthand how often systems fall short for the students they’re meant to serve. This isn’t just a professional mission for me—it’s personal. As a community college transfer student, I know what it feels like to be overlooked, like a "ghost" on campus. But I also know the transformative power of systems that recognize and celebrate the rich experiences learners bring with them. That’s why I’ve made it my mission to build an education system that is flexible, equitable, and designed to fit the needs of learners—not the other way around. Some of my favorite projects have been about turning challenges into opportunities. At UCLA, I built the Transfer Student Center from the ground up, creating a hub for belonging and success. At the Aspen Institute, I co-led efforts to help hundreds of colleges reimagine transfer as a key strategy for student success.Today, I lead special initiatives at Sova Solutions, including California Vision 2030, a partnership with Governor Newsom and the California Community College System to revolutionize the transfer process. I’m also the founder of Transfer Nation, a global community dedicated to transforming the transfer experience, and co-founder of My Tribe Media, a media advocacy collective committed to shifting the narrative around transfer, first-gen, and adult learners.Whether it’s implementing common course numbering or working with colleges nationwide to drive systemic reform, I’m here to challenge the status quo.If you’re working to make higher education more inclusive, innovative, and impactful, let’s connect. I’d love to collaborate.
Listed skills include Public Speaking, Community Outreach, Higher Education, Fundraising, and 57 others.
