Student researcher for an intensive 9-week structured research curriculum, wherein we completed weekly literature review. This was in conjunction with developing our research proposals with our mentors. I was mentored by Dr. June Tester at the Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland where we did a pilot study to test the feasibility of giving incentives to diabetics to increase how many times they use their glucometer. Presented research findings in a Zoom meeting providing insight into the data we collected throughout the summer.

Student intern for an intensive 10-week Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR)​​ Program. Collaborated with a group of 4 diverse high-school students and UCSF, UC Berkeley, and Lifelong Medical researchers to formulate a research question for a community-based research project. Narrowed down the research question to, “How can deterrents in recreational areas affect stress and chronic health diseases?” and collected data (photographs) using the research method PhotoVoice. Reviewed photographs through semi-structured interviews, which were later transcribed, analyzed, and coded using thematic analysis. Created and co-led both English and Spanish presentations showcasing our findings and recommendations to our family members, Lifelong, UC Berkeley, UCSF researchers, and various community stakeholders.
