As Director of the Adult Numeracy Center at TERC, I oversee a team of math practitioners who create amazing professional development, materials, and resources for making math and numeracy more accessible to adult learners and their teachers. Much of this work is done in support of our contract with the SABES Mathematics and Adult Numeracy Curriculum & Instruction PD Center for Massachusetts. However, the Adult Numeracy Center also provides PD and math resource development throughout the U.S., especially in support of the NSF-funded EMPower Series.

I also promote and secure contracts for professional development for Adult Numeracy Center products nationwide and identify grants and other funding for Adult Numeracy Center research projects.

Through the work of TERC and the Adult Numeracy Center (ANC), I have served as Lead Curriculum Developer for the Curriculum for Accelerated Math (CAM) for the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Adult and Community Learning Services. I also led the development team in restructuring the original CAM curriculum units to turn it into Curriculum for Adults Learning Math (CALM). I have co-developed "Making Sense of Fractions,” "Exploring Linear Equations", and “Making Sense of Data” online courses with Moodle for SABES (System for Adult Basic Education Support) PD Center for Mathematics and Adult Numeracy. I am a proponent of the EMPower Math Series and, in addition to conducting professional development for the series, have created a teacher support video called “Identifying Lesson Content with the EMPower Math Series”. I have facilitated the Adults Reaching Algebra Readiness [(AR)^2] workshops throughout the country. I also have collected related evaluation and assessment data from all workshops and course offerings for the ANC and have provided technical and instructional support for course participants.

As a LINCS National Trainer, I have the privilege of working with adult education instructors, administrators, and researchers on mathematics, numeracy, open educational resources (OER), and STEM training. This work is conducted in person, as well as online with various learning management systems. In my work I also promote the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and research-based instructional strategies for working with adults and youth, including effective lesson planning.

I have worked with an amazing team of curriculum developers to create unit and project-driven learning plans for various topics for the construction craft laborer (CCL) LEARN Curriculum, including weatherization, masonry, pipelaying and trench excavation safety, and hoisting and rigging. My development work included designing activities, handouts, instructional tools, and assessments, as well as identification of relevant Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for use with the curriculum.

I developed 11 lessons with contextualized examples and practice problems for a TI-30XS Multiview Calculator book. I also created an additional practice crosswalk utilizing ten different New Readers Press resources.

My primary responsibilities as the Lead Adult Education Instructor were to create and deliver effective lesson plans based on the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) to the nearly 200 students I saw in my program each year. Much of my lessons incorporated digital literacy components, particularly through my free online courses on www.Eliademy.com and www.CK12.org. I also was the site manager and oversaw all facility matters, as well as supervised one full-time staff and four part-time staff. My administrative duties included submitting monthly progress reports to my director and mid-year performance reviews of our learning center as a whole. I also was responsible for delivering professional development in my local program as needed.

My contract work with Aztec included editing content and design for their online GED Prep Solution – GED Mathematical Reasoning units. I worked to identify errors and inconsistencies between instructional content, practice problems, and test questions, as well as provided recommendations for improving lessons, sample problems, and practice and test material to incorporate more conceptual understanding opportunities.

As the Minister of Christian Education and Youth, I assisted the senior pastor with weekly worship planning and leadership, as well as advised the Christian Education (CE) Committee and church Council on matters pertaining to the growth of the CE program, youth group functions, and facility needs and improvements. I also counseled parishioners and prepared and facilitated youth events, confirmation classes, and regional youth programs.

As the Director of Marketing and Professional Development Specialist, I was responsible for providing staff development workshops to clientele at trade shows, as well as in schools and organizations. I helped to create product demonstration videos for the company website and training materials. I also partnered with the company president to develop curriculum guides and instructional materials for two math manipulatives.

My main responsibilities as the Director of Student Activities included creating a calendar of speakers, entertainers, concerts, and community events for the college students. This included negotiating contracts and technical riders for each event. I also served as organization advisor to several student groups on campus and taught an incoming freshman course each term. Each year I coordinated the annual spring break mission trip where I would take 30-50 college students to Juarez, Mexico, to build houses for families in need of improved shelter.
