Design Software Support Engineer As Ukesf Scholar

Fareham, Uk

A year-long internship with EDA Solutions Ltd to pursue my interests in nanotechnology, providing support to customers with the Tanner EDA design and verification tools from Mentor Graphics:■ Provided first stage support technical support via on-site visits, web-ex, phone and email.■ Developed flow customisation and automation via C/Tcl/batch/bash scripts across tools and OSs.■ Generated sustainable internal procedures and automation to reduce non-customer tasks.■ Debugged and provided examples of (Mentor) Calibre DRC / LVS rule decks written in SVRF. Challenging aspects of the internship were:◆ Debugging problems and causes in large designs and unknown corporate IT environments.◆ Efficiently finding or developing solutions in unison with the customer and the sales team.◆ Gaining rapport and crossing language and technical barriers in customer communication.◆ Collaborating with the sales team to dynamically establish task priorities.Exposed to a variety of tasks and with freedom to fully explore problems to design, implement and release solutions, the internship allowed me to: ● Gain experience with leading design within IC/ASIC/MEMS/Photonics industry. ● Enhance communication skills in multiple settings and across several media. ● Become introduced to the SVRF language and technical intricacies of leading verification tools. ● Broaden experience in OSs, virtualisation, and interconnectivity between tool and OS domains. ● Receive an EW Brightspark Award in 2018 for my work in the company (See awards section).

Laboratory Technician

Department Of Electronic Engineering

Work through the Easter of 2017 funded by the University of York Research Pump Priming fund, assisting with two research projects as a laboratory technician with:1) Research and prototyping for Dr. Katherine Dunn in the Biologically Inspired Computation Group.2) Development of clean room fabrication protocols for a DropBot microfluidic masters project.1) Worked with Katherine to develop, verify and document a controller for a research experiment to improve outcome consistency and hence validity of results.■ Utilised an Arduino with external circuitry to output the required programmable pulse train. ◆ Individually adjustable pulses with amplitude, width and intermediate delays were enabled.■ Verified the system in a bio-chemistry laboratory with the experiment succeeding consistently.■ Provided extensive system documentation to allow modifications without my involvement.2) Developed a fabrication protocol for a DropBot microfluidics system’s electrode arrays using the in-house clean room facilities.■ Empirically researched fabrication parameters for: ◆ Sample preparation and cleaning. ◆ Application and removal of photoresist. ◆ Photolithography and evaporated layer deposition.■ Established optimal fabrication procedure and values for parameters including exposure and etching intervals and layer thicknesses utilising a consistent, structured and well documented approach. The laboratory tasks completed allowed me to: ● Broaden experience with embedded system development ● Gain experience in a bio-chemistry laboratory, including preparation of solutions and pipetting. ● Refresh skills and gain valuable practice in the clean room for sample fabrication techniques.
