Founding Principal of HGOR, Bob Hughes, is recognized for his professional and personal contributions to the growth and expansion of the practice of landscape architecture. Bob’s commitment to the community has been recognized for his many contributions. He has served on The Piedmont Park Conservancy since 2005 in various roles, including Board Chair overseeing the 45-million-dollar park expansion. He also served on the George West Mental Health Foundation’s advisory board for two decades providing pro-bono services that have established an ethos of respect for therapeutic gardens and environmental stewardship best practices.As a graduate of the University of Georgia (UGA), Bob is a huge proponent of fostering future generations of landscape architects and remains highly active with his alma mater. He volunteers regularly as a guest lecturer and instructor at UGA, Georgia Tech, and Clemson University. He is the former president of the School of Environment and Design Alumni Association and President of the Dean’s Advisory Council for UGA’s College of Environment + Design (CED). In 2001, Bob created the HGOR/Richard Davis Lecture Fund, and he and his wife Mary established a Professorship at UGA’s CED to retain and recruit top professional landscape architects to train tomorrow’s generation of designers.Bob’s thoughtful design approach calls attention to a given place's most distinctive natural attributes, while his collaborations and community outreach strategies extend the boundaries of traditional landscape architecture.
