I grew up in two worlds, in a juxtaposition of architecture and community. One world is the busy streets of Brooklyn, NY, where various forms of architecture present themselves in many diverse pockets of communities. The second world is that of my native town of Sinjil, Palestine, where my parents came from. The stone-structured village architecture of Sinjil is far different from that of NYC but one thing remains the same, a strong sense of community. It is for this reason that I chose to study architecture at Pratt Institute, where I graduated from the B.Arch program in 2021 with a 3.77 GPA, and a minor in Sustainability. I wish to uphold a sense of community with the architecture that I design. Architecture doesn’t need to be large and futuristic at the expense of the surrounding public. Throughout my career, I aim to develop projects that maintain communities while advancing the state and values of architecture in all its forms, including the physical space, the virtual space, and even in media.I carry these ideals in my professional career where I worked as an intern at OP-Architecture Landscape to design an Urban Landscape strategy situated in Tokyo, Japan, that gave the community spaces of leisure in a future mechanized environment. Community engagement also played a role in my career when I worked with Professor Gonzalo Lopez to design a playground made of Earthbags by holding design workshops with community leaders and members of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. When I’m not working on architecture and design, I engage my local community by playing various sports including, basketball, volleyball, football, and rollerblading. I wish to advance my knowledge and experience in various forms of architecture and design while marrying the values of the two worlds that I grew up in.
