With a background in atmospheric science, Brian specializes in the acquisition and analysis of wind measurements from the lower atmosphere relevant to atmospheric science, wind engineering and wind energy studies. He has extensive experience in planning and executing field campaigns targeting in-situ measurements from extreme wind events including landfalling hurricanes and severe thunderstorms. Brian's active research also includes the investigation of wind plant complex flows using custom Doppler radar technologies.Brian is proficient in the design, development and implementation of software used for atmospheric data acquisition, including time history analysis and the construction of single- and dual-Doppler radar data fields and subsequent data extraction and visualization. Brian, along with two colleagues at Texas Tech University, have developed proprietary methods to provide dual-Doppler derived information beneficial to the wind energy industry. The group has co-found SmartWind Technologies, a technology development and service company specializing in providing hardware, software and knowledge to measure and analyze complex flows in the lower atmosphere.
