About Hunter Moss
I am a B.S. Mechanical Engineering student at the MSOE, graduating in May 2025. I have internship, military and team-based project experience. Skills in SOLIDWORKS, PTC Creo Parametric, AutoCAD, MATLAB, Arduino C and C++, and 3d printing. Since I can remember, it was my dream to become a U.S. Marine. After graduating high school, I pursued that dream and graduated Marine Recruit Training in October 2013. After completing combat training, I was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of 2171 - Electro-Optical Repair Technician and was transferred to Fort Lee, VA to complete my training. After falling in love with optics and graduating at the top of my class, I was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in Camp Pendleton, CA. I was quickly recognized for my hard work and dedication to my work and received a promotion to the rank of Corporal in April 2015. In March 2016, I married my high school sweetheart and in October, I deployed with my unit as part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit to parts of Africa and the Middle East. Shortly after returning from deployment in April 2017, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and chose to extend my service for another 4 years. Following my re-enlistment, I was reassigned to 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, where I served as the Regimental Maintenance Chief for approximately 1 year before receiving Permanent Change of Station orders to 12th Marine Regiment, an artillery unit based in Okinawa, Japan. During my tenure with 12th Marines, I served as the subject matter expert to the Regimental Commander for all matters regarding ground ordnance maintenance. At the same time, I began continuing my education by attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in pursuit of an A.S. in Technical Management. In July 2021, shortly before exiting the military, I graduated with a 3.82 GPA and was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda honors society. During my 8 years of service, I was awarded 6 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, 2 Good Conduct Medals, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and Armed Forces Service Medal. My decision to exit the military came out of a desire to continue my passion for optics in a more technical aspect. In short, I developed the desire to be on the leading edge of developing new optical technology. After months of research, MSOE provided the education I was looking for while being relatively close to family.
