As a full-time substitute at Knoxville’s only charter school, I work with urban youth in grades K-8, both general and special education, to improve behavioral and academic outcomes. In general education, I follow lesson plans for both whole group and small group instruction and manage classroom behavior using Teach Like a Champion strategies and interventions. In special education, I teach both inclusion and extended resource groups. I’m a highly requested and effective classroom leader, known for my flexibility, dedication, and teamwork. I’ve built relationships with my students that improve learning outcomes, reduce undesirable behaviors, and encourage long-term academic achievement.At Emerald, I’ve had opportunities to utilize a wide range of skills and strengths. With a growing number of immigrant and non-English-speaking families enrolling at EA, I frequently translate and interpret for Spanish-speaking families and ELL students. On a regular basis, I provide social-emotional and academic support for students with IEPs, BIPs, and 504 plans. I’ve also worked as an assistant to the librarian in building our lexile level library management system, designed graphics for use in the school, and participated in family outreach to increase enrollment, attendance, and retention at EA.

As a freelance editor since 2018, I’ve worked with creative professionals on a wide range of projects, from global editing and fact checking in literary critical works to line editing in poetry collections. I’ve also worked with graduate students on research projects, with undergraduates on creative essays, and with staff editors on literary magazine copyediting and development.
