Assisted legacy bull mainframe clients (mainly local government and MOD) to get the most out of connecting their PC networks using DIWS/DSA and TNVIP gateways.Began in a technical support role, quickly moved to pre-sales technical consultant. Entered the six week graduate training program of what was then Siemens Plessey. Enjoyed team building excercises with the rest of that years graduate intake. We completed outward-bound courses, had training sessions in negotiation, problem solving, finance etc. Also worked in a variety of departments to build good relationships with other departments, and to understand how the organisation works. Worked within the Motorway Systems division, writing software in C to manage the motorway traffic statistics. Completed self-paced courses in C.

Entered the Diplomatic Service as a grade 10 clerical officer. Took the MLAT (Modern Languages Aptitude Test) and achieved a 95th centile score. Achieved one of the top scores on the advanced promotion examination for Executive Officer (grade 9) promotion. Worked within the Overseas Allowances Section of the Personnel Services Deprtment, working with computerised accounts. Devised a Computerised Residents Accounts Book for overseas embassies.
