Stephanie Hughes is a senior reporter based in Baltimore. She works for Marketplace, a national public media organization that covers business and the economy. Her focus is on education.Previously, she worked as a radio producer for Bloomberg. Before that, she was the senior producer of the daily news magazine show, "Maryland Morning" at Baltimore's NPR affiliate, WYPR. She's also reported pieces for outlets including The New York Times, NPR's "Morning Edition," "All Things Considered," "Living on Earth," "The Takeaway," Salon.com, “Word of Mouth,” and WNYC Public Radio.She was one of the producers of the year-long, multi-platform series “The Lines Between Us,” which won a 2014 duPont-Columbia Award. Her reporting has focused on issues including Baltimore’s thousands of abandoned houses, the technology available to help us adapt to climate change, and the dangers of schools turning to AI in an effort to prevent violence.She’s been chosen for fellowships with the Knight Digital Media Center in Berkeley, California, the Journalism and Women Symposium, and the RIAS program in Berlin, Germany.
