Agricultural literacy is the key to the future of agriculture. I grew up in the suburbs of Tulsa, OK and the closest experience I had to life on the farm was when we briefly had chickens in the backyard. That is until I joined FFA in the 8th grade and become fascinated by the complexities of the industry. Once I saw the disparities between agricultural practices and public opinion, I found a passion for bridging the gap between producers and the people they feed. While more than 98% of our population will never participate in production agriculture, that 98% still votes. They still make decisions at grocery stores, and they ultimately decide the future of the agricultural industry. It's my belief that accurate and relevant information should be readily available to the 98%. I believe that they have the right to understand how food finds its way to their tables.Growing up in the suburbs gave me insight into general public attitudes towards production agriculture and it is my goal to use this perspective combined with the scientific knowledge I have gained to create agricultural advocates in their respective communities.I am a senior at Oklahoma State University, pursuing a degree in agricultural communications with a minor in marketing.
