Vp Engineering, Data PlatformSplunk Aug 2021 - PresentSan Francisco, California, UsAt Splunk I lead Data Platform Engineering, which is made up of the development teams for Splunk Enterprise (UI, Analytics, Federation, SPL1 & 2), Data Management (Forwarders, Connectors, Technology Add-ons, Edge Processing, Agent Management), and SDLC and Production Monitoring engineering teams.My team is 650 people strong and responsible for most of the major priorities for Splunk over the 3+ year timeframe supporting $3+ billion in business.I'm leading the Engineering charge for shifting Splunk from a tool to own and search all the data, to one that manages it anywhere and Federates Analytics to meet the data where it is. Both key Splunk Product priorities.To enable this I'm leading the Data Platform teams through a cultural shift towards a focus on Developer Owned Quality, including merging QA teams with the developer organization, and building out high speed iteration through a focus on devops and seamless SDLC.I'm also rebuilding the system from the ground up by championing a focus on foundational improvements to Splunk Enterprise. This includes identifying business and technical risks around technical debt in various features that exist, identifying the customer benefits of fixing this debt, negotiating with peers in product and executive leadership to allocate more resources towards fixing that debt, building plans, hiring leaders, and executing with positive results on improvements in the foundational technology.Throughout all of this I'm partnering deeply with the Customer Support and Field organizations to handle sensitive customer communications through change, during escalations, incidents, and longer-term customer partnerships. I am also regularly tapped to present roadmap and longer-term vision discussions for strategic customer relationships and at user conferences.And of course the visibility and accountability here requires regular presentation & accountability checks with the full Splunk Executive Leadership Team. -

Software EngineerLlnl Jul 2002 - Apr 2006Livermore, Ca, Us* Responsible for designing, implementing, and delegating tasks related to the data ingest side of a 100k+ line J2EE application running against an Oracle database. This required managing requirements and the tasking of multiple people as they tied into the larger project.* Designed and implemented a program (using Ant) to deploy a 100k+ line J2EE application across a cluster of Linux servers. With one command all code was checked out from CVS, built, installed, and tests run.* Conceived, designed, and implemented solution for efficient ranking and review of proposals for the LDRD program at LLNL. The system was web-based and user input and review was done during proposal presentations on a set of 20 iBook laptops. Work performed on this project earned a productivity award.* Designed and implemented upgrade solution to migrate a database for tracking over $50 million in funding from antiquated 4D database system to new Oracle-based database. -
