Alan developed business models and managed diverse procurement related projects within Transnet (TFR), SANRAL, Dept. of Energy and Road Accident Fund. He represented Barclays and GSK CSI initiative (on behalf of EY) in Zambia for the development of a logistics supply chain for common medicines into the rural regions.

Developed Strategic Sourcing strategy and identified Savings Potential for Indirect Spend across all brands. Identified $2.2m pa savings potential using a more centralised and strategic approach to the procurement of common goods and services. The strategy required business unit managers to relinquish responsiblity for procuring their goods and services. Irradicating the siloed approach to procuring indirect services opened up significant cost benefits to the business. The greatest challenge was impacting the status quo, mindsets and behaviours of the brand / category managers.

I was responsible for the procurement of capital equipment for diverse Automotive OEM clients for the production of large scale A class metal pressings incl. vehicle doors, bonnets, and tailgates. The successful implementation of Kuka robots increased operational efficiency by 65% and also improved quality by more than 60%. I worked with union representatives to manage the impact of technology on select jobs.

Nurnberg, Germany

Introduced Advanced purchasing (Strategic Sourcing) practices into all FM european sites. Managed after-market supply for diverse Automotive and Railway braking systems.I introduced low cost country sourcing for designated commodity groups and reduced spend by 38% on average per component. I negotiated commercial terms, incl. technical and quality requirements linked to the production transfer to more cost competitive supply partner.

Frankfurt Area, Germany

Responsible for the strategic Sourcing of materials to locally manufcature automotive passenger and driver airbags and steering wheels incl. tiptronic controls. The steering wheels required the outsourcing of sewing of the leather to Poland due to the then low labour costs.

Munich Area, Germany

Facilitated the strategic alignment of designated category groups between BMW and LANDROVER. I developed and implemented a common technical and commercial strategy with my BMW counterpart. We reduced costs by 35% due to economies of scale and a more strategically aligned supplier base. Developed the selection criteria to reduce the inflated combined number of supply partners and managed the resourcing of projects to mutually preferred select global partners.

Responsible for developing strategic supplier partnerships for designated commodity groups. I negotiated commercial terms including price for design iterations, SLA's, Quality and delivery terms with suppliers. Managed the pre-production supply of prototypes incl. prototype tools at each build phase upto homologation, system fill and series supply.

Managed the inbound Logistics and internal transporation of diverse automotive components to production line. Managedd a team of 25 associates, incl. 2 team leaders and 11 fork lift trucks. Introduced job rotation to ensure flexibility of work, this increased job satisfaction and reduced absenteeism.
