Hi there! I’m an international development professional driven by two big questions: how change happens and how to do good. While both questions seem simple, the more I learn, the more I realise they are more difficult than they seem. When I talk about change, I mean how nations expand wealth, freedom and happiness, how governments expand services, dignity, respect and opportunities to communities, families and people. I first started thinking about this question in university, where I studied political science and realised the obvious: that the life and the political system I enjoyed growing up was the exception, not the rule around the globe. It was only when I had the opportunity to move to Papua New Guinea in 2016 however, that I really understood the question, and my mission for the next five years was to help the PNG Government to implement an ambitious change agenda that spanned macroeconomics, public financial management and economic transformation. This experience prompted my second big question: how to do good? After arriving in PNG, I quickly realised that doing good is hard. Every country is complex and unique, the field of international development is inherently messy and political and you often work on wicked problems with no clear definition, let alone solution. Being effective in this context is a vocation in its own right, and doing international development differently and better has become my second great passion. Throughout the journey, I realised that I love leading programs and people, and that I’m an unashamed fan of the Pacific, Papua New Guinea, promoting gender equity and debating development policy. Don’t hesitate to be in touch – I’m looking forward to it.
