Srijita here 👋🏽 here's my story:I was born in India to a middle-class family & a kickass set of parents who defied all societal norms by enrolling me in tennis at the age of 5. They believed in me & in tennis as a viable career. By 15, I was ranked #8 India. The next chapter should've been going pro. But my book took a turn.An injury forced me to reset my goals. But I wasn't ready to hang up my racket. I pivoted, pursuing a collegiate tennis career in the US.Ada, Oklahoma became my new home. 14,000 miles from Kolkata. A town of 17,000. I was the first Indian student-athlete at East Central University.But adversity struck again. ECU cut the tennis program due to budget cuts. I lost my athletic scholarship & my identity as a tennis player in one swing. This plot twist ignited my next big thing: Entrepreneurship.Fueled by my own battles with anxiety, I founded StoPanic, a startup aimed at helping people manage panic attacks with therapeutic music & on-demand counseling. The company made it to the prototype stage, won the esteemed Love's Cup Pitch Competition, & got me into my first job as an Entrepreneurship Specialist at the Ada Jobs Foundation (AJF).For the last several years, I've been a venture advisor and entrepreneurship-led economic development expert working to empower founders in the Midwest and make entrepreneurship accessible to all.At AJF, I assisted in developing an entrepreneurship-led economic development strategy in a rural setting, putting Ada on the map as a model for small town innovation. We won an EDA Build2Scale grant & became 1 of 16 communities in the Rural Innovation Network in 2020.Now, as a Venture Advisor, I'm coaching the next generation of Oklahoma founders, helping them refine their ideas, build fundable companies, & access capital to scale. I'm an ecosystem builder at heart; I believe in the power of intentional community building to create solid foundations for founders to thrive.My journey has been defined by resilience, & creating something from nothing. From defying gender norms in sports to being an immigrant founder & community builder. The throughline?I am gritty. I don't give up.I have high EQ. I love data but trust intuition.I am an advocate for mental health.
