I am an analytical chemist by training conducting research in the areas of organic geochemistry, Biogeochemistry, and environmental science. My principal skills are based around organic and light isotope mass spectrometry, usually combined with a chromatographic technique, such as GC-MS, LC-MS, GC-C-IRMS, etc. I analyse complex mixtures of chemicals in soils, sediments, and archaeological artifacts to discover information about biological processes, past environments, or use by humans. This information is used to underpin research in key areas of current concern such as climate change mitigation, food security, and global pollution.
