Key Achievements:Project Manager responsible for the development, deployment and operation of a web based delivery system for the Ordnance Survey (OS) (~ £3 Million including data related sales). Delivered on time and to budget and due to its successful operation was extended late into 2006, far beyond the original expectation of the project, bringing additional revenue to Infoterra. As Project Manager and Engineer set the foundations for Infoterra's own imagery service 'GeoStore' (> £1 Million investment) by analysing the various customer requirements and planning the implementation. As Engineer developed the web front end for the service, incorporating component based XML, XSLT, GWT, Java and wrapped Javascript techniques. Project managed multiple tailored customer systems and services (~£500K each) all derived from the generic Infoterra service set in place. 1996 - 2001 ~5 yrs

Remote Sensing Analyst, Systems Engineer, Developer, It Engineer

Nrsc (National Remote Sensing Centre)

Joined as a Remote Sensing Analyst/Engineer, to provide software development across a range of geospatial projects. In order to allow the UK-PAF to process data from the ERS-2 satellite launched in April 1995, I was responsible for the software modifications required to update the existing ERS-1 processing system. While working on this project it was necessary to learn new techniques and procedures:. RTM software package (Requirements management). Yourdon methodology and TEAMWORK.. PCMS (Configuration control)I produced all the documentation, wrote implemented and unit tested all the code changes for this project. As part of a large archiving project in conjunction with ESA (European Space Agency) I created an automated archiving demonstration that showed how a UIMX (MOTIF) program on an IBM RS/6000 system could control a robotic tape library data server (IBM 3494). In an Oceanography project using the IDL language and various formats of satellite data I was able to demonstrate various Ocean phenomenon. Among the data used was :ERS-1 ALT OPR - used to show sea surface heights.NOAA AVHRR - Brightness Temperature data.ERS-1 ATSR - Sea Surface Temperature data.I developed programs to visualise the data in the form of surface plots and was able to demonstrate the ability to :. Indicate sea surface height on top of sea surface temperature.. Produce Global/Regional averages of sea surface heights, as well as the sea surface heights relative to the Geoid.. Convert the AVHRR brightness into sea surface temperatures.. Mosaic separate ATSR sea surface temperature products together to form much larger products. As part of a private venture project I created a website with 'c' based cgi-scripts to allow users to select air-photo products, by scrolling through and zooming in and out of an map image. The master data set was in excess of 2 Gb in size, so I developed a method to compress the image making data access quicker.

1994 - 1995 ~1 yr

Systems Support Engineer, Shift Supervisor

Serco Space Limited (Contracted To Nrsc)

I joined SERCo Space on the 1st May 1991 as a System Support Engineer and Shift Operations Supervisor, contracted by NRSC (Farnborough). I joined the operations team responsible for processing and archiving data from the ESA satellite ERS-1. Since ERS-1 was a new European project, many procedures had to be written to anticipate how the new facility would operate. In order to improve the success of processing, I created a database that enabled operations to generate reports when required, and to create graphical representations of both processed and unprocessed data. Later I adapted this program/database to create production sheets and to ready-print any labels that would be required to place on media. I also developed software that removed the necessity to save individual products to CCT, and therefore saved archiving space, media costs and improved efficiency of a system that was causing production to fall behind its targets. As a shift supervisor and senior system support engineer I was responsible for 8 operators and all the equipment we used for production ( many SUN’s ,VAX's and PC's). This involved replacing hardware, fault finding and configuring various systems. I was also responsible for training all the operators on operational and system issues.

1991 - 1994 ~3 yrs

Electronics Engineer

Philips/Fluke Scientific Test And Measurement Division

At Philips my responsibilities were the support and repair of the very large range of Fluke and Philips multimeters. This involved the repair down to component level of over 50 different types of meter and their accessories, such as current probes, temperature probes and high voltage probes. I was also respsonsible for customer communications regarding fault diagnosis, estimated and actual price quotations.
