The league comprises both a men's and women's competition and is run by the country's governing body, Basketball Australia. The league was founded in 1981 and became the basis of what was known as the Continental Basketball Association during the 1990s, and later the Australian Basketball Association during the 2000s. The ABA disbanded following the 2008 season, and at the time, the SEABL's East and South conferences were two of six ABA conferences. Today's SEABL competition boasts teams from Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.

I am currently a basketball coach for the Boys Year 8A Team at Mentone Grammar. Signed with the Spanish club Araberri Basket in January to finish out the European season once the NBL season had finished up. My role was to help the team make the playoffs and mainly play the shooting guard position. I had to come off the bench and provide scoring as well as guarding the oppositions best offensive guard throughout the game.I was able to learn a different style of basketball which helped me gain knowledge and experience that I took back to Australia.

Through this program I was able to achieve my goals of being selected for the Australian Boomers Basketball Squad and representing the U/19 Australian Basketball Team at the World Championships in Latvia.
