I worked as a assistant to the Restoration Branch of the National Museum of the Marine Corps(NMMC). In this position I spent most of my time assisting in the restoration of a SBD Dauntless WWII dive bomber. I would be given a task, or a part to restore, and then would work largely on my own initiative to complete the task. The skills that I learned doing this built on the skills that I learned in the summer of 2014 when i interned with this restoration team and also skills that I have learned my whole life from helping my father restore antique gas engines. While working for the NMMC I was also responsible for researching products that would be used in the restoration process and selecting the best ones available to purchase. I also assisted my supervisor in doing conditional inspections on artifacts that will be sent out on contracts. My time with the NMMC was cut short because our workplace was closed due to the finding of hazardous materials on the premises.

interned at the National Museum of the Marine Corps with the Restoration branch for the summer of 2014. I worked on restoring a SBD Dauntless, a World War II dive bomber. The primary job that I did over the summer was making a mock-up of the cockpit of the airplane and finding out where the hundreds of hydraulic and electrical lines would go in the airplane and placing them on the mock-up so that they would be easier to instal. To do this, I had to identify each individual line by looking through hundreds of pictures that had been taken in the dis assembly process and figure out where they went. This was a very time consuming task that took great attention to detail but by the end of the summer it was finished, and it was successful in making it easier for the restoration specialist to instal these lines in the airplane. Also, my work in this position led to me being hired back in February.
