My role within the Tamarack Institute contains several fields, including administration, Human Resources support, Communications, Event Support (virtual and physical), technical and remote working support, and executive support for the organization’s Co-CEOs. This position has introduced many aspects of work to me, and the remote working environment and multitude of virtual platform-based events has been a continued source of growing experience.

The role of a case manager promoted personal organization, as well as a focus on polite and professional interactions when engaging with clients, international partners and medical providers. Addressing multiple issues in a short period of time meant that professional organization was imperative for gaining a personal understanding of cases, and ensuring privacy standards were maintained. As well as this, the opportunity to gain experience within an office setting proved invaluable, as I was able to learn from tenured individuals and get advice on planning for the future.

Within the Region of Waterloo, I sought to utilize fluent research techniques through the ongoing evaluation of security protocol best practices for the Homeless Individual and Families Information System (HIFIS) database. I applied adept organizational management abilities while conducting research and creating reports, gaining valuable knowledge through the evaluation of the Renter's Toolkit resource to promote an adherence to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act within promotional content. Throughout the remainder of the placement, I worked to improve my working knowledge of database management through evaluating and resolving current structural issues within the HIFIS database.

Feedback can be the catalyst to identifying the problem and fostering a solution for student improvement. During my time at the Communications, Public Affairs and Marketing (CPAM) department, I worked alongside staff members within the office and in the broader university setting in a variety of roles. I conducted formal interviews with students at university convocation at both the Waterloo and Brantford campuses, maintaining a friendly and calm atmosphere conducive to useful and detailed interviewee responses. This experience, along with periodical administration duties, developed my ability to communicate and portray myself in a professional light. I consistently met critical departmental deadlines when archiving and categorizing news reports in a precise and efficient manner. I also expanded my knowledge of social media best practices by routinely creating content for Laurier’s official Facebook and Twitter pages. I developed an intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel through constructing and reviewing informative resources for both CPAM and the associated Web Team.

During my two years as a reviewer for the Laurier Undergraduate Journal of the Arts, I sought to improve my reviewing capabilities through an increased ability to disseminate between effective and flawed writing styles and habits. I ensured that review responses were fluent and assisted in providing helpful feedback for writers to use when constructing future academic works. I have also incorporated stylistic approaches that I found especially effective into my own writing methods. As part of LUJA's mandate, I strictly adhered to privacy and impartiality concerns, returning any papers that I felt could represent a potential conflict of interest.

Throughout my time as the Vice President of Communications for the Laurier Young Liberals, I have developed and implemented a communications campaign to raise student awareness and engagement. I have previously provided social media training to other members of the organization, in order to help boost awareness and the reaching potential of our hosted events. I have assisted in organizing events with both students and federal Liberal figures through ensuring event awareness and drafting/editing email communications with corresponding figures in MP offices.

During the election campaign, I provided assistance to the Kitchener-Conestoga Federal Liberal Campaign in the form of communications assistance and party platform promotions. Through this, I gained experience in using a number of methods to increase efficiency of social media outreach, including the use of tools such as Hootsuite and Bitly. I also maintained consistent contact with campaign staff to coordinate emphasis on certain issues, and broke down a provided daily agenda into a number of key points to be conveyed on multiple social media outlets. This included publicizing events to help increase candidate-constituent interaction.

Working as a volunteer during multiple Days of Action for the Federal Liberal Party helped to improve my data input skills, whilst also adapting a script to fit individual call scenarios. I also became more acquainted with Liberalist, improving my site navigation skills.

During my time working as a Busser and Barback for Moxies Grill and Bar, I helped to maintain high standards of customer service during high volume periods, within a fast-paced work environment. The position required regular communication with co-workers in order to ensure that cleaned tables were quickly implemented into the system. A knowledge of correct sanitation procedures was also critical to ensure a minimal risk of contamination. I also assisted with maintaining a clear and organized beer fridge, which required careful coordination, as well as the creation of a system for organizing the different supplies.

Through shadowing Lord Hunt of King's Heath, the Deputy Leader of the British Labour Party in the House of Lords, I gained valuable insight into the workings of parliament. Through taking details notes on committee meetings, I increased my ability to filter and assess a consistent stream of information based on importance. This experience inspired my interest in politics and promoted the idea of studying Political Science at an undergraduate level.
