About Ilya Lyashevsky, Phd

Working at the intersection of art, science, technology, and social impact. I am the cofounder and CEO of ThinkHumanTV ('24 edtech Tools Competition winner), a new breed of social emotional learning and wellness tech, developed with support from the National Science Foundation. I also co-created and co-teach the country's first graduate course on the cognitive foundations of social emotional learning at Columbia Teachers College together with Mel Cesarano. Mel and I are the creators of the Deep Emotion Learning SEL methodology, which focuses on grasping the fundamental principles that govern our emotions. Previously, I was the cofounder of WeShelter.org, a nonprofit using mobile tech to help alleviate homelessness, which helped log over 500k charitable actions in support of NYC homeless service orgs. I also helped the NYC Dept of Homeless Services fully revamp and modernize their street outreach tech infrastructure. Prior to that, I worked with Electric Literature to develop the first digital magazine app for iOS, and was the first technical employee at Broadcastr, which created an early geo-location-based storytelling app. I also built the first iPad app released by Human Rights Watch, and numerous other iOS apps. As an author, my fiction and academic work has appeared in multiple journals including The Bellevue Literary Review, Epiphany, Chautauqua, the American Educational Research Journal, and elsewhere.
