January 2024 – present, Special Educational Needs Assistant, Victoria College, BelfastThis post includes being placed with two secondary school students to support them with their educational needs. Working as a teaching assistant I have the responsibility of:• Teaching the student materials from a wide range of subjects that they have missed in class/ do not understand. • Keeping up to date with exams/ class materials/ grades.• Helping my older student catch up on work she has missed or utilise time spent at the nurse’s due to her medical condition going over the relevant class materials – and in some cases supervise her doing an exam. • Offering learning support to all students in the first year (year 8) classroom of my younger pupil, by helping out in various subjects and supervising.I have also done some basic training on child safety regulations, as well as training to better understand the educational needs of children on the autistic spectrum. In this job I have learned to be emotionally supportive to every student in the classroom, keep them motivated during stressful times, and remain friendly so that I can be someone that they can trust in a time of need.

This post involves providing customer support, handling cash and card payments, maintaining a tidy and clean work environment and working as part of a team comprising of other retail assistants and floor managers. Working as a retail assistant I have had the opportunity to:• Develop considerable communication skills, with both personal and telephone callers.
