Jack of all trades with IT & IS responsibilities in a busy manufacturing environment. With my broad skill set and experience my involvement was not only traditional Network & Server duties but also a System analytics and development champion with the emphasis on continuous improvement and reduction in waste.NZLL had gone through many changes over the 3 years I was there. I was glad to have been part of the Management team that contributed to the ongoing success of the business. On starting the role my strategy was clear, stabilisation and simplification, for example: • Moved all the servers onto a VMWare platform • Formalised a DR process and invested in VEEAM • Upgraded the Email system to Outlook and Exchange 2010 (onsite) • Deployment of Linux (Ubuntu) Webserver, Proxy + Dan’s Guardian • PHP web reporting using AJAX, Javascript and JQuery • A number of C# (2010) desktop apps to automate user processes This approach allowed me to utilise my time more effectively for value added tasks and projects. We had a diverse user base that required support, training and mentoring using the technology and the IT department was responsible for ensuring this was maintained at a high level. System ProjectsA Dynamics AX 2012 R2 implementation was a major business project for the team, and was a replacement for an ageing ERP system with an up to date and some would say bleeding-edge product.Although though there were many challenges and lessons learnt it went live at the end of September 2013 with zero impact to the company.

In the short time I was with them I worked to make their aging manufacturing system stable and gave them the impetus to move forward - Then looked for new worlds to conquer.........I was part of a small and diverse team of professionals consisting of an Automation Engineer, Network Engineer, SAP support, and general IT support. My role was responsible for their manufacturing information system CustomLeda. This was originally established over 15-years ago and managed through an equally mature Delphi 32 architecture. The core of CustomLeda included 127 individual applications accessed through a single menu system. Each part was tailored specifically to a typical manufacturing process: - • Planning and control • Production Order • Material Control • Quality Control / Lab testing • Finishing and Packing Coming from a manufacturing background it was easy for me to assimilate the operational processes that allowed me engage with each departmental team on their terms - being prepared to listen to suggestions and help users’ gain better understanding of the technology. Being highly automated the acquisition of all production data is from PLC's that is collected via Delphi based services using OPC (OLE for Process Control), these data packets are then processed and stored in the Database (Interbase). I steered the company to adopt a web-based Intranet reports, these could be quickly deployed with the effort focused on information content. The company used SAP as part of the accounting, sales and stock management. The two systems SAP and CustomLeda were tightly connected, moving data between each other through import / export interfaces. This area is an obvious cross-over seeing the SAP support and I working closely to keep data integrity.

Built a multifarious software product that allowed simple, and convenient management of the their PLC based monitoring and data-capture networks. It even makes a phone call to the farmer if the ground temperature hits a predefined range; how cool is that. Supported and developed their IT Infrastructure. My first project on starting with the company was to analyse and amend the manufacturing coding structure in line with the organisation's development plan, this was a very important and responsible project that I was more than qualified to undertake. The project required me to write a complex conversion program using T-SQL that would alter many database tables – this would not only allocate new numbers but calculate new units of measurements and recalculate cost values and restructure records for grouping and analysis; this had to have zero disruptive impact on the companies ERP system Sage Enterprise. In addition to the project was the need to evaluate and rewrite HTML/ASP intranet documents and bespoke software. This was a very demanding project to undertake especially for one leaving education so soon; not only did it test my programming skills but showed that I can assimilate and identify operations and processes quickly under very demanding time frames.
I was 17-years old when I started and stayed with them for 11-years and within that time I was a warehouse operative, Quality control technician, Warehouse Supervisor and Logistics Manager.I left to pursue a new career in I.T.
