About Isabelle Rodriguez

My undergraduate research was in organic synthetic chemistry. I focused on the synthesis, characterization, and activity of N,N’-bis-substituted triazolium salts as potential antimicrobial agents. This work enriched my knowledge in designing synthetic pathways, utilizing characterization techniques such as NMR, IR, and mass spectrometry, and efficiently reading scientific literature and writing for the resulting publication of this project. My graduate research is in using functionalized DNA nanostructures as theranostic agents in both mammalian cells and plants. This work has developed my skills various biochemical and analytic techniques such as DNA purification, fluorescence microscopy, cell culturing, plasmid amplification, and LC-MS. Throughout my education, I have prioritized mentorship between my lab peers, the students I TA for, and for undergraduate chemistry students exploring graduate school. This has given me skills in leadership, time management, and effective communication. In the future, I hope to use my experience to build a career where I can serve as a role model for under-represented Latinx chemists while working in the industry of my passions.
