The course "Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship" is part of the curriculum of Civil Engineering at Universidad Católica. The course allows to know and to internalize in the reality of an entrepreneurship with a scientific and technological base. Throughout the course, the students develop, collaboratively in a group, a technological product/solution, which, with the help of mentors, must present to a panel of risk investors. It seeks to develop an experience as close as possible to the complexity, uncertainty, and challenge of designing and bringing a new scientifically-based product or service to the market and to society through entrepreneurship.Some of the contents of the course are:- Methods of entrepreneurship- Team and communication.- Management of teams/people.- Elevator Pitch- Ideation and recognition of opportunities.- Lean Startup: discovery of the market and customer.- Design and implementation of the product.- Value propositions- Marketing and distribution of the product.- Models of income.- Funding.The role of the teaching assistant is to accompany and mentor the groups during the development of their projects, as well as to correct their work.

The course "Engineering Challenges" is a freshmen course from Civil Engineering, at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Its main emphasis is to provide a learning experience in which students are challenged and motivated to design engineering projects. The course aims for the students to develop an engineering design whose leit-motiv is a problem of current interest, and contains components of service to the community. The design must be innovative, creative, functional, pertinent to the user and its implementation of good quality, comparable to a proof-of-concept prototype that could be presented in the search of financial support on a risk investment fund. The course contents include:- Design methodology- Data Analysis and Uncertainty- Specialization workshops- Estimation- Materials- Modeling- Elevator Pitch, Licenses / Patents & CrowdfundingThe teaching assistant fulfills two main roles; mentoring and correcting. The teaching assistant has an assigned number of groups during the semester, which he/she must accompany and guide during their process, intervening when necessary. In addition, it must be present as an evaluator during corrections, assigning scores for the work done and giving feedback.

Proyecto social desarrollado en paralelo con un equipo interdisciplinario de Dayton Ohio University. El proyecto consistió en desarrollar un dispositivo que aprovechara la humedad en los invernaderos de la Escuela Técnica de Quilacahuín, a través de la investigación, innovación y diseño. The Student Council of Engineering (CAi) is an institution founded in 1904 to represent the students of the School of Engineering of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.In its 110 years of history, it has been led by outstanding engineers, being an entity influent in multiple historical processes for the University.Among their main responsibilities are the political role of representation, and also to contribute to an integral formation of future engineers. Trabajo de investigación para la empresa Metrogas. Aplicación de herramientas de etnográfia aplicadas para encontrar oportunidades de innovación en el mercado del sur de Chile. Este estudio se desarrolló enmarcado en el curso AntroDiseño, parte del Major de ingeniería, diseño e innovación.El objetivo de esta investigación fue encontrar tres oportunidades de innovación en el sector urbano del sur de Chile, considerando que esta empresa quería expandir su rango de distribución, para lo cual necesitaban entender profundamente la relación que tienen los habitantes de Puerto Montt y Puerto Varas con la energía.

[Pre-fiiS Organizer]The year 2015, fiiS (International Festival of Social Innovation) worked with a group of students from Universidad Católica to carry out one of its sessions in university districts, being the San Joaquin campus one of the venues of the event.In order to prepare the ambiance of the festival, a pre-event was held, with a guest speaker and an intervention in one of the courtyards of the campus, where the line-up of the festival was exposed and people were invited to participate in the event.
