I worked with Prof. Christian Claudel on using piecewise affine formulations of the Lax-Hopf solution of 1-D conservation laws for different applications related to traffic modeling. One particular application was control of the Lighthill-Whitham-Richards (LWR) equation using mixed-integer linear programming. The results have important ramifications for traffic sensing/control systems.
