About Ivan Litvinov

I received my Ph.D. in 2016 from the Institute of Thermophysics (Novosibirsk, Russia). During my career, I developed methods for describing, predicting, and controlling unsteady tornado-like vortices in various engineering devices, particularly hydro-turbine tracts and swirl combustors. Experienced in thermal fluids and fluid mechanics with a focus on turbulent flows, unsteady vortex phenomena, and flow control. Skilled in experimental fluid mechanics, optical flow diagnostics, LDA, PIV, pressure fluctuation measurements, experimental design, modeling, data analysis, and prediction. Interested in R&D, industry, hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, renewable energy, and flow sensing.

I developed methods for describing, predicting, and controlling unsteady vortices in models of various technical devices. In particular, as the head of a scientific group, I worked on constructing an approach for predicting and controlling the behavior of an unsteady vortex, particularly for hydro-turbine equipment and swirl combustors, based on an artificial neural network.

We used experimental fluid mechanics methods (Particle Image Velocimetry, PIV, and Laser Doppler Velocimetry, LDV) to describe and predict an unsteady vortex phenomenon called "precessing vortex core". This negative effect occurs during the off-design operation of various equipment and generates strong and dangerous pressure pulsations on the walls. Prediction and control of this vortex phenomenon is a relevant issue for future power engineering development.
