Part of specialised DBA migration team (within larger level 3 DBA team) which focused on migrating legacy databases to a new serviced based platform utilizing Exadata and ODA platforms. Migration methods differed per database, e.g varying from complex migrations with considerations such as cross platform migrations, db's of differing oracle versions, applications with minimal downtime allowed and databases of several TB in size, to smaller less complex migrations. Methods included RMAN duplicates (if same Oracle versions), manual cloning, transportable tablespaces, and expdp/impdp for smaller db's. Close collaboration required with application team to migrate dev,test and pre-prod databases, culminating in weekend migrations of Prod databases. Managed additional post migrations tasks such as Backup and Recovery configuration, security and user entitlement configuration, db validation and post migration performance tuning. Also assisted with providing level 3 support for ticket and incident escalation. Developed team dashboard application, using Oracle Apex, which provided a user friendly interface to the 'Snow' ticketing and change management application.

Cork Ireland

Member of an Oracle support group, with 10 DBA’s supporting over 300 databases, varying from an 8TB data warehouse running on a three node Rac cluster to single instance high volume transactional OTLP databases. Led initiative to provide an engineered database platform which involved working closely with UNIX admin team to provide server builds which standardised database configurations. Also researched and evaluated use of new technologies, e.g. Grid 12c, Real time apply via Data Guard, 11G release new features. Developed several critical lightweight internet browser based apps to aid with team management requirements e.g. App to monitor and track weekend change orders together with two inventory apps using Oracle Apex. Managed Disaster Recovery enterprise wide weekend tests based on data center shutdown from an Oracle DB perspective. Led project to upgrade databases and apply latest PSU’s, resulting in all databases using version 11.2.0.3.3.

Zurich Switzerland

Involved in project to provide cloud like database services in all company regions and functional areas. The goals of which included consolidating use of servers, preventing excessive capital and operational costs, reducing the need for a variety of hardware models, operating systems, cluster configurations and processes which greatly increase the cost of operational support and maintenance.Provided support of over 2000 databases as part of a 12 member DBA team.Team tasks on a monthly basis included processesing approx 120 BMC Remedy tickets, 150 Swan XP change requests, 200 SwanXP activities and the creation of on average 50 new databases. Other recurring tasks included database migrations, upgrades, backup/Grid control and other infrastructural issues. In order to meet agreed SLA's for many high visibility bank applications several customer input queues were managed: BMC Remedy, a group mailbox, hotline phone and an on-call phone.
